Yes, it's only you :-)

newsgroups tend to invite spam, directly and indirectly. These lists
were explicitly created to escape the newsgroups disease of undisciplined
people and ruthless marketers.

You will notice, that many people posting here are intentionally MIA
from the newsgroups.
